Jail House Album Review

The JailHouse

Before you do anything, look at the album cover. Just take a moment and look at all of the shapes and the feeling of it. Ok, that is how this album sounds. The cosmic sound waves carry you through this album. This isn’t necessarily about getting a
message across, but the Dream Pop band is more about pleasing listeners aesthetically.
Dennis Bestafka’s synthed-out guitar along with the feather touch of Bill Mowery on the drums blends perfectly with Tarabud’s vocals. The album can fill a room without disturbing it. The sound becomes just part of the décor, almost fading into the background.
After just a few seconds, you can tell that they are recreating the 80’s and 90’s synth pop sound. Taking from major names like Smiths, U2 and My Bloody Valentine, Sentinel has harnessed all of these sounds into a beautiful concoction that easily
passes over the listener. Every track is similar, yet distinct enough to feel a change in the mood. These subtle changes are what gives Sentinel their charm and appeal. Sentinel has been releasing albums for 11 years. Although this is the first album that I have listened to personally, I am looking forward to listening to the other five albums.

Sentinel on TV !

As you all know, I am member of this indie group. And here is the latest:
Last night we were on Paralta.tv broadcast on local TV channels in East Bay Cities. You can catch the podcast version of it at and look for 9th Floor Radio shows at: www.peralta.tv.
Last weekend, our song 'All Her Ways' was found show worthy by Live 105 Soundcheck, playing local indie music of all flavors.
This is exciting because WXRT in Chicago, heard that show and now sister station in the midwest wants to play us! It's truly a deliscious avalanche that they want to hear our music.

Now Sentinel members are taking trips abroad and of course it makes us sad to turn shows down in the San Francisco area. We'll be back in full force on 8/24 for our show at Beckett's Irish Pub. No cover at the door, and must be 21 and older.

We'll be hitting the ground running: check out calendar at: www.gathermanproductions.com.

yours,
Tarabud

Sentinel had a fun show at pier 39 in San Francisco. Lots of peeps watched and ogled us, while they ate hot dogs and cotton candy, tourist took photos to show their friends in Japan, and some dedicated fans came to commune with us. It was a great time. Too bad we can only play there once a year. Here are some pics taken by Mary. That same weekend after our show, we had the pleasure of hearing our song "All Her Ways" on FM Radio, Live 105 station. Wow what a treat.

Sentinel Dream Band Describe Their Sound

People often ask what does your band sounds like?...and I am always at odds to give a straight, concise answer that won't lead them astray. How does one describe a unique sound? But by comparing to other well-known bands that most people have heard of. So here is a quick description from Wikipedia.org that gives a flavor of what our sound is like: “Dream pop is a type of alternative rock that originated in the early 1980s when bands like Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, and A.R. Kane (to whom the term has been attributed) began twisting New Wave melodies into sonic, echoing textures and mumbled vocals. The term was mostly used in the United States. In the late 1980s, several varieties of dream-pop emerged, primarily in Britain. These included shoegazing and space rock. In the late 1980s and 1990s, a number of dream pop bands emerged in the United States, including Galaxie 500, Mazzy Star, and His Name is Alive. More recently bands like The Dandy Warhols and Hinterland have had the label attributed to them. Dream pop has influenced artists of other genres, such as Deftones and The Smashing Pumpkins.” So there you have an encyclopedia-type-definition, that somewhat describes Sentinel music. I would also add that our sound has a lot of U2 and Flock of Seagulls influence. The solid vocal parts & lyrics that are decipherable, come from Olivia Newton-John, Linda Ronstadt, Pat Benatar, and the like of youthful influences. The list of influences could go on & on, but the truth is, all musicians are influenced by what came before, and the ever-present "collective unconscious" that Jung, the psychologist often expounded on. We are all connected at some level. Happy Holidays! Tarabud ~
